It was written by the National Black Archives in association with the National Family History Centre, and is available in hardback and e-book. The e-book is also available as a pdf on this site as a free download. It is a complete history of the African families in the UK. It shows how and why people from Africa settled in the UK, how they have settled and progressed in their new lives, and how their families have developed since. It also examines the major social and political forces at work in African history in the UK. The e-book is the pdf of the hardback book and it is about the same length as the hardback book. What makes the African Family History so valuable is that it explores not only the Black family as a whole, but also highlights the individual life stories of the families within it. The book explores all aspects of Black families from the 1850’s to the present day. The book is arranged into six major sections, and each of the sections follows a timeline so that the reader can be guided to the most relevant parts of the history. Below is a brief extract from the Introductions section in the African Family History. Chapter 3 – The Enslavement of Africans by Robert C. Some were brought to England as indentured servants in the late seventeenth century. Others were captured, or even bought, for sale to the British on the African coast. Many others were stolen from their homes in the hinterlands of the Atlantic coast. Others were forcibly relocated or “transplanted” by local rulers to trade for slaves. After the British Slave Trade was abolished in 1807, many enslaved Africans were transferred to the British
